Scope of Collection
This digital collection consists of selected historical documents from the New Paltz Town Records. Featured are: an “Indian Deed “ (1677) which documents the sale of land to the Huguenots by the Esopus People, the Register of Slaves” (1799-1825), which records the birth and register of infants born to enslaved mothers living in New Paltz, the “Register of Poor Persons at Present Relieved by the Overseer of the Poor” (1805-1827), which includes detailed information about the town’s poor population, and the Civil War draft ledger (1863).

Historical Context
In 1870, Frederick Douglass assumed control of The New Era, a weekly newspaper established in Washington, D.C. to serve former slaves. He renamed it The New National Era, and published it until it dissolved in 1874.
Scope of Collection
This collection includes 27 issues of the abolitionist newspaper, New National Era. The newspaper contains editorials and articles pertaining to the anti-slavery movement. The issues run from 1870 through 1874.

Historical Context
In September 2014 the New City Library began collecting oral histories with the assistance of a grant from the Library Association of Rockland county. Since that time, the library has collected over 100 oral histories with local residents.
Scope of Collection
These interviews document the changing landscape of Rockland County and the lives of long-time residents who grew up in the County. They also reflect the experiences of migrants originally from New York City, other parts of the United States, and from around the world.

Historical Context
Nehasane Park, located on Lake Lila in the Adirondacks, was created by William Seward Webb and covered 115,000 acres, including the Adirondack Railway. The focus of the park was the great camp Nehasane. All buildings at the camp were designed by architect Robert Robertson.

The Aurora is the annual yearbook of North Country Community College, which is the only public college located in the Adirondack Park. NCCC was founded in 1967 in Saranac Lake, New York.

Historical Context
Niagara County Community College held its first graduation ceremony in 1965 at the Grand Ballroom of the Parkway Inn. The first graduating class consisted of 133 students in five curricula. Since that time, the College has grown and developed an extensive community of Alumni. These days NCCC has graduating classes of several thousand students in over 70 programs of study.
Scope of Collection
The NCCC Commencement Program Collection includes details on each college graduation ceremony from the very first graduating class to the present. Programs list the names of graduates and their degrees. There are details on the ceremony procession, including keynote speakers, as well as background on academic rituals such as the cap and gown.

NCCC Briefs was a campus-wide bulletin distributed to students, staff, and faculty at Niagara County Community College. It was issued every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the academic year and weekly during the summer. PM Bulletin, geared toward evening and non-traditional students, was published weekly each semester. The bulletin was first published in 1963 and continued through 1975. In 1976, a similar publication titled Update took its place.
Scope of Collection
NCCC Briefs features announcements and notices of various campus activities and events—from academic notifications to sports schedules; guest speakers to new faculty announcements. These bulletins highlight student life at NCCC, as well as the College’s growth during its early years.
