Troy Public Library
About
The Troy Room at Troy Public Library houses the library's local history and special collections. The collection contains a wealth of resources for genealogical and historical research on the City of Troy, Rensselaer County, and the greater area. Included in the collection are census records, city directories, indexes of vital records, historic newspapers, photographs, scrapbooks, and more. The digital collection on New York Heritage represents a small but growing portion of the contents of The Troy Room.
The Troy Public Library was chartered in 1905 to serve the city of Troy after the union of the Troy Lending Library, the Troy Young Men's Association, and the Free Reading Room of Troy. Since 1897, the library's home has been The Hart Memorial Building on Second Street in historic downtown Troy. The building is an early example of the American Renaissance and features an original Tiffany window depicting master printer Aldus Manutius printing Dante's Divine Comedy. In 1939, the Lansingburgh Branch opened in rooms in the old Lansingburgh Academy building at 114th Street and Fourth Avenue where it is still located.

Tromptown Historical Society
About
As part of the “Lincklaen Purchase” DeRuyter was originally named Tromptown by Col. John Lincklaen. However, in 1795, name was changed to honor Adm. DeRuyter of the Dutch Navy.
Located in a fertile valley with excellent water power, DeRuyter quickly grew into a prosperous farmer community with a variety of industries, including sawmills, tanneries, and a soap factory, in addition to stores and other businesses, as well as churches and a school.
DeRuyter Academy, affectionately called “The Old Stone Heap,” became a well known educational institution in central New York, attracting students from many other communities in the state.
Another attraction bringing visitors to DeRuyter was the Four County Fair. The quarter mile race track was considered the best in central New York, and many fine trotters and pacers demonstrated their speed here.
DeRuyter can boast of many famous citizens, including Ezra Cornell. It should be noted that before he left for Ithaca, he built five houses in DeRuyter, at least one of which is still in use.
Photos and documentations depicting DeRuyter’s interesting history can be found at the Museum, formerly the town’s bank. Visitors are welcomed.

Ticonderoga Historical Society
About
The Ticonderoga Historical Society, organized in 1897 and chartered by the Board of Regents in 1909, advances the preservation and interpretation of history through our collections, programs and community outreach, perpetuating American traditions for future generations. We focus on the historical, educational, scientific and social aspects of the Adirondack Mountains and Lakes regions of northeastern New York State while preserving and promoting our unique cultural history. The Ticonderoga Historical Society has sponsored the development of Champlain Legacy Park in Ticonderoga on the banks of the La Chute River with direct access to Lake Champlain. Once a barren parcel, the Park is now home to a magnificent Samuel de Champlain monument, beautiful native trees and shrubs, historic flower gardens, arbors and more. The installation of the Liberty Pole and a walking trail access to the Falls are our more recent advances.

Robert Rogers (1731-1795) was an American-born soldier and adventurer who served in the British Army during both the French and Indian War and the American Revolutionary War.
Grant W. Johnson of Ticonderoga served as Essex County's lone State Assemblyman from 1953 until his death in 1965. In that time, New York's roads were of particular interest to him, especially the proposed "Adirondack Northway," an extension of the State Thruway's I-87 segment, that would link Albany to the Canadian border. This collection documents Johnson's role, and that of others, from Governor Thomas E. Dewey's proposal for a major highway to connect New York City and Montreal in 1953 to the 1960 aftermath of the referendum results. Researchers interested in the early implementation of the National Interstate and Defense Highways Act of 1956, the Adirondack Park, or state and local politics of the era will find much of value in this collection.
