The Steele Memorial Library is the largest branch of the Chemung County Library District located in Elmira, NY. It is the mission of the Chemung County Library District to provide exceptional public library services and programs to our citizens; fulfilling their individual needs for educational, recreational, and cultural information through contemporary, well-maintained library collections and facilities located throughout Chemung County. The Steele Memorial Library has a vast genealogy and local history collection that includes Elmira newspapers, Federal and state census records on microfilm, local cemetery records, New York State Vital Statistics records on microfiche and much more.
Steele Memorial Library is a member of the South Central Regional Library Council.

The library, named after James M. Milne, Oneonta Normal School’s first principal, is responsible for keeping and maintaining several special collections unique to the library and the college and are housed in the Alden Room. Old Main was the first major building on the SUNY Oneonta campus. After significant deterioration, Old Main was razed in 1977, but the Old Main pillars were saved from the wrecking ball and moved to campus shortly thereafter. The Class of 2008 raised funds to restore the "Pillars of Old Main," which were erected on the SUNY Oneonta campus in 1980 and are proudly displayed on the Upper Quad.

The SUNY Potsdam College Archives & Special Collections is located on the second floor of Crumb Library, and is SUNY Potsdam's designated repository for the college archives, manuscript collections, and rare books. The College Archives collects, preserves, and makes accessible historical records documenting the history of SUNY Potsdam, from its founding as the St. Lawrence Academy in 1816 to the present. These materials represent campus history from the perspectives of former and current administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Significant college collections include the President’s Office records, the Crane School of Music records, the President's Office records, the Pioneer Yearbook collection, the Racquette Newspaper collection, and many more. The Special Collections unit focuses on select aspects of Northern New York History. Included in these collections are the papers of Congressmen Bertrand Snell and David O’Brien Martin, as well as books and other historic materials that document the Adirondacks, the St. Lawrence River and Seaway, and local history.

SUNY Plattsburgh Special Collections focuses on the Northern New York State counties of Clinton, Essex, and Franklin; the Adirondacks; the Champlain Valley; and general materials on New York State. Information is available in a variety of formats, including monographs, periodicals, pamphlets and other ephemera, audio and video, photographs, maps, and manuscripts. Special Collections card catalogs index manuscript guides, pamphlets, local newspapers, and article-by-article indexing of periodicals relating to New York State. In addition to local history materials, Special Collections also contains the College Archives, the SUNY Plattsburgh thesis collection, rare books, and the Rockwell Kent Collection. Special Collections services include patron assistance (available during all hours that the collection is open), referral to other historical collections as needed, and individual and group orientation to the collection.

Staatsburg Library
About
The Staatsburg Library is located in Staatsburg in the Town of Hyde Park. Built as a non-denominational chapel c. 1854, and converted to a library in 1894, the library is a community hub: a vibrant and welcoming space to read, to learn, and to meet in the heart of the hamlet, offering a rich variety of programs for people of all ages and interests. The Staatsburg Library makes available internet connectivity and many other materials to those who might not otherwise have access. The Staatsburg Library is a member of the Mid-Hudson Library System.
The Staatsburg Library’s history collection contains print matter, artifacts, photographs, and oral history interviews documenting the history of the hamlet and environs. Some of this material is searchable and viewable online; some of it is only accessible by visiting the library in person.

Founded in 1947, and permanently chartered in 1955, the St Lawrence County Historical Association continues to research, collect, preserve, and interpret the history of St Lawrence County. The SLCHA is a not-for-profit membership organization and museum which serves as an educational resource for the use and benefit of the citizens of St Lawrence County and others interested in the County's history and traditions. The Association collects and preserves archival material and artifacts pertinent to the County's history. In cooperation and collaboration with other local organizations, the Association promotes an understanding of and appreciation for the County's rich history through publications, exhibits, and programs. The SLCHA operates within museum standards established by the American Alliance of Museums.
