East High Street becomes West Pulteney Street once it reaches the Village of Riverside, west of Corning along the Chemung River. West Pulteney Street runs parallel to the river on its north bank. Many businesses on East High Street in Painted Post and West Pulteney Street in Riverside were completely flooded out.

This portion of West Pulteney Street, east of the McDonald’s and Tastee-Freez, was completely destroyed. The Erie-Lackawanna tracks were undermined as the water swept away the supporting dirt. This would be a common sight, as the railroad tracks were built close to the river throughout the Southern Tier.

That McDonald's was torn down, as was the Tastee-Freez next door.
