Bess Packard created a photographic study, whose pictures studied both the formality and luxuriant growth bordering the gardens of the Packard Mansion. Classical sculptures and stone benches were interspersed along the smoothly raked gravel paths which connected the flower beds in the garden immediately surrounding the mansion. Extensive gardens on the south side of Terrace Avenue included a cutting garden as well as a perennial garden which boasted an ornamental pergola and pool surrounded by an extensive assortment of hardwood trees. A vegetable garden occupied the south end of the property.
