Historical Context

The Witherill Postcard Collection is the culmination of former-resident Linda Witherill’s lifelong commitment to gathering postcards representing the people, places, and scenes of Cazenovia, NY. This collection of postcards features notable images of Cazenovia’s past and present, of buildings, business, and local scenes. Since its founding in 1793, Cazenovia is distinguished by Cazenovia Lake, its location along the Cherry Valley Turnpike (Rt 20), Chittenango Creek, its farmland, the Cazenovia Seminary, and eventual stops on the Syracuse & Chenango Valley and Cazenovia & Canastota Railroads. These factors allowed Cazenovia to grow through industry, agriculture, a summer tourist season.
