Historical Context

John R. Dixon was a Civil War veteran from Naples, New York. Dixon served in several Civil War regiments, most notably in the 9th Regiment New York Volunteer Cavalry. After the war ended, Dixon moved to Texas and Missouri for a brief time, and then returned to Geneva to live with his sister. He died in Naples, New York in 1927, at the age of 95.

Scope of Collection

The collection consists of Dixon’s military papers, including appointment letters and muster rolls, as well as deeds to land in Missouri. There is also a scanned copy of the collection finding aid.
