Historical Context

Hurricane Agnes swept over the eastern seaboard in 1972, causing heavy rainfall in June of 1972.  Steuben County, and particularly Corning, Painted Post, and neighboring areas, were hit especially hard as the Chemung River flooded. The river crested at 40 feet.

Scope of Collection

Photos collected and compiled by Kirk House of the Steuben County Historical Society from several repositories, including Corning-Painted Post Historical Society, Erie Lackawanna Historical Society and the Steuben County Historical Society.
