The Cold Spring Harbor Village Improvement Society was formed in 1899 and established a building fund for a permanent home. Donors included Louis Comfort Tiffany (Laurelton Hall) and Robert de Forest (Wawapek Farm). In 1913, a new brick colonial-revival building designed by Julian L. Peabody, the architect of Huntington’s Town Hall, opened on the corner of Main Street and Shore Road. This location was the home of the library for nearly 75 years.
