Historical Context

Robert Bellamy was born in 1911 in Norwich, NY. The Bellamy family was a prominent African American family in Chenango County. Robert was a member of the A.M.E. Zion Church in Norwich and served as superintendent of the Sunday School for a time, among other social clubs he was a member of. Robert’s brother, Cleon, served in WWII.

Scope of Collection

This collection includes photographs, postcards, and ephemera relating to the Bellamy Family and their friends of the city of Norwich in Chenango County, New York. The collection covers the Bellamy family’s involvement in city life, family trips and reunions, as well as their involvement in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Norwich. It also covers the relocation of the A.M.E. Zion Church within the city of Norwich in 1973.
