Historical Context

Ira and Cato are neighboring small towns to the northeast of Auburn in Cayuga County.  They are rural areas with two hundred years of agriculture as a primary industry.  In the 19th and 20th centuries, farmers in Cato and Ira produced tobacco.  Those farms still exist today but produce dairy, fruits, beef or alpacas instead.
