Historical Context

Audrey Wood (1911-2000) was a library clerk for the Lynbrook Public Library for many years and before she died her family photos were donated to HSERL through her power of attorney and family friend, Henry L. Barzilay. Audrey Wood lived with Henry and his family for decades on Broadway in the general location of the Wood family farm. The Wood family farm and property were located at 121 Broadway (or Eddie’s Barbershop at the time this description was written in August 2022). According to census records, the Wood family lived at that property as early as 1850. In 1873, the property was owned by  Audrey’s great-grandfather, Joseph C. Wood (1805-1880), and by 1888, the property was owned by Audrey’s grandfather, Cornell S. Wood (1839-1900).

Scope of Collection

The images in this collection range approximately from 1880 to 1915 and show the Wood family, their family farm, school pictures, and family friends who lived nearby.
