This collection consists primarily of letters written by William Butler to his brother Edmund during the Civil War period from 1861 to his death in 1864. William served with the 69th Regiment of the New York Militia.
Materials related to Daniel Butterfield's service in the Union Army during the Civil War and his involvement in his father's company (what would become The American Express Company).
