Scope of Collection

This collection reflects the Veghte Family, people who worked for them, and places they visited with friends c. 1886-1973, with most items from c. 1899-1908. Edwin Veghte (1854-1952) worked as Secretary and Treasurer of the Troy Malleable Iron Company in Troy, NY.

The collection includes photographs of African Americans who worked for the Veghtes, possibly Hannah [Van Der Veer] and her family, and photographs of nurses and German immigrant servants. It also includes architectural photographs of 18th and early 20th Century structures, including photographs of a Dutch-style home in Watervliet, NY; photographs of domestic interiors, parlors, and gardens; scenes from Lake George, the Adirondacks, and other tourist sites, including women boating and hiking.

Due to loss of original order, the photographs, glass plate negatives, photocopies, and documents were arranged by ACHA museum staff into series based on subject matter or photographic technique.
