Historical Context

Charles Umbrecht (7/18/1888 - 12/9/1888), was an architect from Syracuse.  His first project was to design the tablets that have the Gettysburg Address on them for the Lincoln Memorial.  During the project, he consulted with Lincoln's own son Robert about the correct words of the address.  The rest of Umbrecht's work was done locally.  He started working in the 1930s and built up a reputation for himself as a good builder, designer, and craftsman.  He even designed his own house in Fayetteville, where he lived with his wife and two kids.  Umbrecht died in Fayetteville in December of 1969 at the age of 81, having worked well into his 70s.
