Historical Context

The Town of Skaneateles was originally part of a Military Tract from the Revolutionary War. Formerly part of the Town of Marcellus, the Town of Skaneateles established itself as a separate town in 1830. Settled largely by immigrants, many from Somerset, England, an agricultural community grew to become an affluent village in the Town of Skaneateles. The village is named after, and is located on, the shores of Skaneateles Lake, one of the Finger Lakes in Central New York.

The Skaneateles Central School District is located in Skaneateles, New York, a town in Onondaga County. The district serves the Town of Skaneateles and the neighboring Towns of Spafford, Niles, Owasco, Sennett and Marcellus. The mission of the District: that Every Skaneateles Laker will have opportunities and support to develop strong relationships, form meaningful connections, and explore multiple pathways for lifelong learning. Their vision: The Skaneateles Central School Community will be a welcoming and inspiring place to learn, grow, work, and live.
