Historical Context

The Livingston County Historian's Office created the majority of this collection in an effort to document people, places, and events in Livingston County, New York. County Historian Marie Preston, who attended events with a recording device and conducted interviews of older county residents, was responsible for the early content. The later content was created or collected by successive Livingston County historians.

Scope of Collection

Collection includes oral interviews and recordings of presentations and events in Livingston County, 1951-1998. The bulk of oral interviews are with older citizens who offer memories and perspectives on their lives and communities, with a focus on people, education, businesses, and anecdotes. Events and program recordings are broadly related to people, communities, religion, recreation, music, and military subjects.
