Historical Context

The area around Tupper Lake was first settled in 1844, and since very soon thereafter it has served as a major lumber producer in New York State.

Scope of Collection

This series includes various photos of housing in Tupper Lake from 1893 to approximately 2000 including apartment buildings, boarding houses, and individual homes and townhouses. Not all of the photos show finished buildings. Rather, a number of the images include apartment construction as is the case with the Don Smith Apartments. There are also a number of photos that just show the porches of homes.
