About

Mission Statement: The Three Village Historical Society works within the community to explore local history through education. Educational programs are developed by collecting and preserving artifacts, documents, and other materials of local significance and by doing research about history of the people who have lived in the Three Village area from earliest habitation to the present.

The Three Village area is comprised of communities where history is close to the surface. It encompasses the villages of Old Field, Poquott, the Setaukets, and Stony Brook.  At the Three Village Historical Society, you can learn about the area's rich and fascinating past in creative and engaging ways. So whether your interests lie with the American Indians who first called this region home, General Washington's Culper Spy Ring, or Stony Brook University, you are sure to find a program or publication at the Three Village Historical Society that satisfies your curiosity.  You too are part of the history of the Three Villages. Come learn more today!

In addition to exhibits in the Bayles-Swezey c. 1800 House that the Society calls home, the Three Village Historical Society continues its goal to educate the community about local history through events, walking tours, and educational programs.  Archival material is maintained in The Captain Edward R. Rhodes Memorial Collection of Local History which is partially housed in the Emma S. Clark Memorial Library in Setauket.

Three Village Historical Society is a member of the Long Island Library Resources Council.
