Historical Context

Arthur Mills Curtis (1866-1951) was a Mathematics and Penmanship professor at the Oneonta Normal School.

During his 38 years of teaching (1895-1933), Curtis devoted himself to his students, colleagues, and community. From 1910 to 1913, he wrote a series of diaries in which he discussed his views on current events of the time, participation in woman suffrage, religious ideals, involvement in the community, and relationships with his colleagues.
