Historical Context

Leonard Cooke was an energetic and enthusiastic Nyacker and activist. He served as chairman of the Board of Water Commissioners, on the Nyack Housing Authority board, and was president of the local NAACP from 1958 to 1968. He was an also an author, a poet, and a photographer.
