Long Island’s North Fork was a traditional farming and fishing community with both rural and suburban character. With close proximity to New York City, it was burgeoning during the early and mid-20th Century.
Scope of Collection
Charles Harper Meredith (1889-1966) was a very active, local, professional photographer originally based out of Cutchogue, New York. His career spanned from the 1930's through the 1960's and led to the creation of an archive containing thousands of images of daily life. Included in our collection are images of parades, accidents, weddings, people, funerals, and locales, covering all parts of Southold Township. The museum is fortunate to have received a large and significant collection of photographs that were donated by descendants of Charles Meredith.
