Historical Context

The Network of Religious Communities and predecessor organizations date back to 1857 where the  Erie County Sabbath School was formed to provide religious education to Protestant children.  As time went on, additional community needs were identified by the organizations who also added social justice and community services to the work they were doing.

Scope of Collection

This collection consists of the special projects and committee work engaged in by the Network of Religious Communities (NRC) and its predecessor organizations.  These have been chosen because of their potential influence on the communities and to show the dedication of the NRC and predecessor organizations as they attempted to better the lives of the Buffalo, NY area and surrounding counties. Although these projects (frequently under the auspices of several committees ) are described in other collections posted here on NY Heritage (e.g. Minutes (including Annual Reports)  or Newsletters, the additional details of the work included in this collection will include correspondence, documents and other papers that tell the stories in more detail and providing the reader with a sequential order to the progress and  the impediments encountered.
