Historical Context

In partnership with Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, La Casita developed Latine-related exhibits, collections, programming, education and cultural heritage research initiatives from 2014 to 2021.

The "Latinos and Baseball" project was designed to build on a growing body of original research, oral histories, and collections by and with Smithsonian partners to document the impact Latino communities have had on American history and culture through the lens of baseball.  Baseball has been and continues to be an important means of celebrating national and ethnic identities, building communities, and negotiating race and class relations in an increasing globalized world.

Scope of Collection

This collection contains videos and exhibition materials related to the 2015 and 2017 exhibitions and videos created by Marilu Lopez Fretts on Syracuse Baseball culture and community.
